I had been tinkering with stuff for quite some time and the more I did it the more I wanted to learn. Selling pedals wasn’t the first thing that came to mind, it just kind of happened.

I started off building effect pedals in my home and still work out of my home.

Building my first pedal was not really to hard. Actually things went very well until I tried to tackle a Fuzz Face for the first time, that threw me for a loop as far as getting to sound right and/or how I thought it should.

I have a friend that works in a local store and he was a big help in getting the ball rolling. From there it was word of mouth, getting on the forums…things along those lines.

Marc Ford and Jeff Massey from The Steepwater Band play on my pedals. Andrew DeRoberts, a very talented player who has done work with the Jonas Brothers and American Idol winner Kris Allen. I’ve heard from people that “so and so bought one of your pedals” but Marc, Jeff and Andrew are guys that I have direct contact with.

One of the cool things about doing what I do is that I get to hear from independent and locals bands…guys who are really talented but that I don’t know that I would have heard about. As the new website comes together, I want to have a page where people who are using my pedals can list their bands/projects and hopefully people who come to check out my site will also check out music they may not normally come across.

The amount of pedals I build a year varies, especially with the current state of the economy. Most of the pedals I build go overseas but things are starting to pick up in the States and new dealers are always coming on board. Overall I’d say I’m pleased with how BMF Effects has grown.

The last couple of months saw the release of The Great Wide Open distortion and most recently the El Jefe overdrive. There are a couple of projects on the back burner that I hope to get out there before the end of the year.

At low volumes it can be used as a mild fuzz pedal. With an amp on the verge on breaking up, it can be used as a clean boost or use the gain knob to dial in more grit. Have an amp that has a great low gain sound? Use the Purple Nurple to add even more gain. Think of the Purple Nurple as an enhancement to a tube amp that is on the verge of or breaking up on its own.

The Great Wide Open pedal retains the character of your amp while adding distortion to the sound. It isn’t modeled after any particular amp but retains a very nice low end, string/note definition and clarity even with drop-D tuning.

The Fat Bastard is a clean boost that adds a little weight to your sound without destroying your tone. With a fair amount of gain available, the Fat Bastard is perfect for getting your leads just above the mix, boosting overdrive pedals or pushing a tube amp into a nice, warm break up. The Fat Bastard also works well with bass guitars.

The Little Red Compressor pedal is brand new and one of the best compressor effect pedals in the market.

Based on a classic design, the Aries Fuzz offers tones ranging from medium overdrive to fat, sustaining fuzz. Stack the Aries Fuzz with the Fat Bastard for an over the top wall of sound. The Aries Fuzz works well with single coil and humbucker equipped guitars.

The Liquid Sky is a warm, lush sounding analog chorus capable of sounds ranging from mild chorusing to an over the top warble that almost approaches ring modulator territory. A very convincing Leslie Speaker sound can be achieved as well. The Mix control allows you to dial in just the right amount of chorus in your signal to meet your needs.

One of the most underrated Overdrives on the market the BMF El Jefe is capable of serving up a multitude of superb low to medium gain sounds. For the "Custom" touch the Op-amp in the El Jefe is installed in a socket. This allows for personal modification and several different types of op-amps can be used.
